Did You Know? Each 10 minutes your people spend on batteries daily adds up to 1 lost week per year. |

- Many warehousing operations that have automated their data collection system use
battery powered barcode readers and/or label printers mounted permanently or
semi-permanently on order picking carts.
- The batteries that power these terminals are generally NiCad or NiMh because of the
requirements for electrically clean, high quality power to the barcode terminal. They
require periodic re-charging to maintain productivity of the terminal, and generally must
be changed twice per shift. Consequently, if the life of the battery can be significantly
extended, the individual order pickers efficiency will increase. If this efficiency
increase is annualized, the average warehouse manager will see a savings of 1 man week
per year based on 10 minutes per day spent changing batteries. This savings is for each
and every order picker in his operation.
- This week can easily be realized by replacing the NiCad with a small 12 volt storage
battery that rides on the picking cart and requires re-charging once every 2 weeks!
DEDICATED DIGITAL has perfected the power converter that makes this
change-over practical!
- The APS (ALTERNATIVE POWER SYSTEM) from DEDICATED DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY links the
barcode terminal (or any other battery powered device) to a small, 7.5 amp-hour gel-cell
or sealed lead-acid battery that greatly extends the time between charges, and is easily
rigged to the push-cart. By stepping DC power from 12 volts down to 7.2 volts, the APS delivers clean,
reliable power that can be used by a barcode terminal. The APS unit eliminates the need
for frequent battery changes, and by doing so increases the efficiency of your operation.
Common ROI on the APS is less than 6 months, but please visit the
Online Cost Justification
page. By filling in the numbers, you can easily calculate your annual
savings.
- Adding the APS to your operation also minimizes the management problem of maintaining
the NiCad supply to insure that the barcode scanners never run out of well conditioned,
fully charged batteries. With the APS, you no longer need NiCads. However, the APS
requires no modifications to your terminal, so if you wish to return to NiCads, itt
just a matter of removing the APS and re-inserting the battery.
- When you add the cost saving to the benefits of reducing heavy metals in our environment
by disposing of fewer NiCads , the decision to purchase should be a simple matter of
writing the check. Start saving time and money today plus become a little more earth
friendly at the same time!
